Legions, Summer Games, NACAC, oh my!

Alison Stephens all smiles receiving her bronze medal at Legion Nationals

The past few weeks have had plenty of action to close out the summer season for London Western. On Aug. 3-4, the Ontario Summer Games were hosted at TD Stadium and 2 of our own were the fearless leaders of the event. A special thank you to Dave Mills and Chris Williams for stepping forward as the technical managers for this meet. To an outsider, most track meets run fairly smoothly and it's all thanks to people like Dave and Chris. Behind the scenes can get chaotic, but as long as the athletes, coaches and spectators are not aware, it's job well done! It was a hot one during this meet that saw the top 13-15 year old from around the province, as well as an open para category compete in the 2-day event. London Western had 11 athletes competing and walking away with 13 medals! Here are the results from our athletes that took part...

Coach Chris confused about where Brandon, MB is. Coach Courtney knows.

Sticking with the hot theme, it was a scorcher in Brandon, Manitoba for the National Legion Championships this past weekend. So hot, that Sam Morrow burned a whole through is throwing shoes! We sent a smaller contingent this year, with coaches Chris Williams and Sylvia Kontra making the trip to guide our athletes.

Christian Panhuis readies for a big throw in SP at Legion Nationals.

Last, but certainly not least, we had Caroline Ehrhardt competing for Canada at the NACAC Championships in Toronto on Sunday. It's been a challenging season for her, as she's been battling an injury all year, but she managed to squeeze out a small personal best of 13.63m for a 4th place finish. The jump was into a -1.5m/s wind, so who knows what would've happened, if they were jumping with the wind, but regardless, she inches her way that much closer to the never-been-done-by-a-Canadian 14m jump! We'll have to wait until next year to see if she can do it!
