Cleaning Up at the National Championships

The LWTFC brought home a barrel full of medals at the 2021 National Championships/Olympic Trials that were held at the Complexe Sportif Claude-Robillard in Montreal on June 24 - 27. A total of 8 medals—5 Gold, 2 Silver, and 1 Bronze were claimed by club members. Add in the Bronze medal won by Phil Parrot-Migas at the National 10,000m Championships in Burnaby BC last weekend, with a time of 29:21.90, and you have a final tally of 9 National Championship medals!

Damian Warner took two National titles, one in the Long Jump (7.81m) and the other in the 110H (13.64), just one month after scoring the fourth highest all-time score in the Decathlon in Gotzis. With his ticket punched for Tokyo, Damian used the championships to do some fine tuning.

Mark Bujnowski was a double medalist as well, with a National Championship title in the Shot Put (17.35m), and a Silver medal in the Discus (52.95m).

Caroline Ehrhardt took her 9th National Championship title in winning Gold in the Triple Jump (12.98m). A bittersweet performance, Caroline was struggling with an injured foot that prevented her from putting everything out there.

Mike Tate was the club’s fifth Gold medalist and National title winner in the 5000 (14:15.93). The race was one of many of the events that battled torrential rains on Saturday. Connor Black was the Bronze medalist in the same race (14:17.87).

Taylor Ehrhardt was the Silver medalist in the Decathlon (7632 points). Going into the final event, he suffered from a muscle cramp during the 1500 which slowed him considerably losing crucial points. Ryan Evans was 4th, improving his personal best by 400 points (6418 points).

Joy Spearchief-Morris finished 6th in the 100H (13.96), making steady progression with her fitness and technique in returning from injury. While Jack Sheffar was 7th in the 1500 (3:55.01).

An invitation-only meet due to Covid restrictions, athletes, coaches, and officials were required to follow strict guidelines for competition and accommodations in order to attend.

A big congratulations to all team members on their fine representation of our club!
